The Wellington Invitational Dodgeball Tournament is approaching, so it’s time to begin preparations for the tournament on Saturday, November 22.
Major League Dodgeball will be fielding two teams – Men’s and Mixed. We will face teams from across New Zealand, Singapore and Australia.
ACCOMMODATION: Wellington Top 10 Holiday Park is a Motel we highly recommend, which is based two minutes from the Hutt Indoor Sports Centre, where the tournament is held.
Prices are very affordable, however availability is very limited, so bookings should be made ASAP.
The Motel has given us three basic options (rooms are limited):
- 1 x motel sleeping 4 people @ $190.00 per night | $47.50 Per Person | Consist of 2 single beds in one room and 1 double in the other that we can split to make 2 singles – also has its own toilet, shower and kitchen.
- 1 x motel sleeping 3 people @ $150.00 per night | $50 Per Person | Consist of 2 single beds in one room and 1 double in the other that we can split to make 2 singles – also has its own toilet, shower and kitchen.
- 1 x bunk cabin sleeping 5 people @ $105.00 per night | $21 Per Person | Two sets of bunks and 1 single bed)
PLEASE NOTE: The New Zealand dollar is currently at $1.10, per Australian Dollar.
Players are responsible for their own accommodation arrangements. However, we’re more than happy to arrange players to stay together at the Motel. You will need to let us know what you want to do, so we can organise this.
FLIGHTS: Airfares will obviously vary, given the dates you fly and when you book.
Below are a couple of Return Flights we got from Flight Centre.
- Wednesday, November 19 from Melbourne: Return Flights – Qantas $525; Air New Zealand $475
- Thursday, November 20 from Melbourne: Return Flights – Qantas $553; Air New Zealand $575
If players book the same flight, Flight Centre can arrange for us to be seated near each other on the plane.
COST OF THE TRIP: Depending on many factors – how long you plan to stay, personal spending money etc, the cost will obviously vary.
To get an approximate figure, if you plan to stay for 5 nights as an example, the cost of the trip (accommodation, flights, personal spending money), we anticipate will be anywhere between $950 – $1,400.
For an overseas trip, to play competitive sport on an international stage, the money is well worth the investment.
PLAYER CONFIRMATION: We need to know who is seriously keen to represent MLD, and travel to Wellington. Players can choose when they want to arrive and leave Wellington, but we need to know who will be going ASAP (by early October).
The plan for some of us, will be to leave Melbourne on either the Wednesday / Thursday (November 19 / 20), and leave Wellington on Monday the following week (or during the week).
MLD TEAM CONFIRMATION: We want to have both teams finalised by early-mid October, at the very latest!
TRAINING SESSIONS: Once the teams have been finalised, we will hold a weekly training session in Bulleen, for 1 – 1.5 hours, varying from Friday – Sunday. This will give us an opportunity to meet the MLD teams, work on tactics & build team morale leading into the tournament. We expect full commitment from everyone involved.
TEAM UNIFORMS: We have specially made uniforms for all the players representing MLD in the tournament. We are in the process of finding a major sponsor, so this will help us bring the price down as much as possible.
If you know anyone that may be keen to sponsor MLD, please let us know.
